3 Steps to Take When Receiving a Counterfeit on Poshmark

3 Steps to Take When Receiving a Counterfeit on Poshmark

Did you know that per Poshmark’s Counterfeit Policy, sellers are fully responsible for ensuring the authenticity of the items they list? So if you receive a counterfeit item, it’s not your fault—and you shouldn’t be stuck with it. As the buyer, you have the right to report it, and Poshmark has a clear process to help you resolve the issue and hold the seller accountable. But timing and documentation matter. Here are the three steps you should take immediately if you suspect you’ve received a fake.

Step 1: Don’t Accept the Order & Open a Case Instead

As tempting as it is to rate the item right away—don’t. Once you accept the order or leave a rating, your ability to open a case with Poshmark is closed.

Instead, open a case within 3 days of delivery. Weekends and holidays count—don’t wait. If you miss this window, Poshmark may not honor your return.

Step 2: Gather Evidence

Take clear, detailed photos of the item—logos, tags, serial numbers, stitching, hardware, etc. Create a side-by-side comparison graphic using photos of a confirmed authentic item. Be sure to cite a reputable source or trusted reseller.

Step 3: Be Direct

Clearly state that the item is counterfeit and explain why by referencing your comparison graphic. Mention that selling counterfeit goods is illegal, and quote Poshmark’s Counterfeit Policy for support:

"We do not allow counterfeit items to be listed and sold on Poshmark."

You'll be protected when you follow the right steps. Trust your instincts, document everything, and take action quickly.
